Bangladesh is not a Hague Convention member. Your police clearance certificate requires full legalisation through the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Spanish Embassy in Dhaka.
Bangladesh applicant situation
Moving to Spain from Bangladesh
Spain is an increasingly popular destination for remote workers.
Your Route
Bangladeshi passport holders require a Schengen visa to enter Spain. The primary route is a consulate application at the Spanish Embassy in Dhaka. Applications are assessed by the UGE in Madrid.
Legalisation Chain
Bangladesh is not a Hague Convention member. Your Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) from the Bangladesh Police must be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, then attested by the Spanish Embassy.
A note for Bangladesh nationals
Bangladesh is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. The full legalisation chain (Bangladesh Police → MOFA Bangladesh → Spanish Embassy) takes 10–14 weeks. Start as early as possible.
Application routes
Consulate or UGE — the two routes to Spain's DNV
Bangladesh passport holders require a Schengen tourist/visit visa to enter Spain. This means the UGE route requires an extra step — obtain a Schengen visa first, then enter Spain and apply. Most applicants from Bangladesh find the consulate route more straightforward. Apply at the Spanish Embassy in your country in Bangladesh before travelling to Spain.

Police certificate requirements for Bangladesh nationals
All DNV applicants must provide a criminal record certificate apostilled or legalised for international use. For Bangladesh nationals, the required certificate is the Bangladesh Police Clearance Certificate (PCC).
relevant national authority
Apply for a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) at the Special Branch of Bangladesh Police (Rajarbagh, Dhaka) or via the Bangladesh Police online portal (pcc.police.gov.bd). Bring your NID, passport, and recent photos. Fee: BDT 500. Processing 10–15 working days.
Certifying for use in Spain
1. Obtain PCC from Bangladesh Police Special Branch. 2. Legalise at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Segun Bagicha, Dhaka (Consular and Attestation Wing). 3. Present to the Spanish Embassy in Gulshan, Dhaka for consular attestation. Originals required at each step.
Allow PCC: 10–15 working days. MOFA legalisation: 5–10 working days. Spanish Embassy attestation: 1–2 weeks. Sworn Spanish translation: 5–10 days. Allow 10–14 weeks total.
The police certificate is frequently the longest lead-time document in a DNV application. Apply for it as early as possible — your case manager will advise on optimal timing to avoid delays to your submission.
Living in Spain
Popular cities and practical tips for Bangladesh nationals in Spain
Barcelona has one of Europe's most established Bangladeshi communities, particularly in the Raval neighbourhood — a strong base of support for new arrivals. Madrid's international tech and business environment appeals to Bangladeshi professionals. Valencia offers lower costs with Mediterranean lifestyle.
Tax implications for Bangladesh nationals
Once you become Spanish tax resident (183+ days in Spain in a calendar year), you file IRPF in Spain. A double taxation treaty between Spain and Bangladesh prevents being taxed on the same income twice. Specialist cross-border tax advice is recommended before making the move.
Banking and finances
Bangladesh has a rapidly growing IT and freelance sector (particularly on Upwork and Fiverr). Many applicants are software developers and designers with established non-Spanish client relationships. Ensure income documentation is in English. Transferring earnings via Payoneer, Wise, or bKash-linked international options is standard. Halal food is abundant in Barcelona and Madrid.
