Spain Digital Nomad Visa · 2026
Live in Spain.
Work remotely.
Do it legally.
Spain's Digital Nomad Visa lets non-EU nationals live in Spain while working remotely for companies or clients abroad. We handle the legal side — online, end-to-end — backed by Spanish immigration lawyers at Platinum Legal Spain.
What Is the DNV
Spain's visa for remote workers and freelancers
Introduced under Spain's 2023 Startup Law, the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) is a residence authorisation that lets non-EU nationals live in Spain while working remotely for employers or clients based outside the country.
Live anywhere in Spain
Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Málaga, the Canaries — base yourself anywhere. Your permit is national, not regional.
Keep working remotely
Work for your existing employer or clients abroad. Up to 20% of your income may come from Spanish sources.
Optional Beckham Law tax benefit
Opt to pay a flat 24% tax on Spanish-source employment income (up to €600,000) for up to 6 years, instead of progressive rates up to 47%.
Bring your family
Spouses, registered partners, and dependent children can be included in the same application. Family discount available.
Quick Facts (2026)
Requirements
Who qualifies for the Spanish DNV?
Six core conditions. If you meet all six, you're eligible. We'll confirm it on a free eligibility check before you pay anything.
Non-EU nationality
The DNV is for non-EU/EEA citizens. EU nationals already have the right to live and work in Spain.
Remote work for non-Spanish employer
Work for a company or clients based outside Spain. Up to 20% of your income may come from Spanish sources.
Minimum monthly income
€2,849/month for a single applicant in 2026 — 200% of the Spanish SMI. Additional thresholds apply per dependant.
Proof of employment or clients
Employees: employer letter + contract, and at least 3 months in post. Freelancers: active client relationships of at least 12 months.
Health cover (employed applicants)
If you're employed by a foreign company, you need a full-coverage Spanish private health policy — no co-payments, no exclusions. Self-employed autónomos are covered by Spain's public health system through their social security contributions.
Clean criminal record
Police background check from every country you've lived in over the last 5 years — apostilled and sworn-translated into Spanish.
How It Works
Five steps from enquiry to approval
Two application routes — UGE (apply from within Spain, 3-year permit direct) or consulate (apply from home country, 1-year visa + 3-year permit on arrival). We recommend the right one for you at step 1.
Eligibility check (free)
We review your income, employment type, country of residence, and family situation. If anything needs adjusting, we'll flag it before you pay.
Document preparation
Personalised checklist. We draft your employer/client letters, coordinate apostilles and sworn translations (worth €200, included), and prepare all application forms.
Health cover + NIE included
If you're employed by a foreign company, we arrange a DNV-compliant Spanish private health policy. If you're self-employed (autónomo), you're covered by Spain's public health system through your social security contributions — no private policy needed. Your Foreign Identity Number (NIE) is assigned automatically when the visa is approved.
Application submission
We file through the correct channel — Spanish consulate in your home country, or the UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas) if you're in Spain. UGE decisions typically arrive in around 20 working days.
Approval & arrival
Once approved, you travel to Spain (if applying from abroad) and register for your TIE residence card within 30 days at your local police station. The TIE appointment is booked directly by you — it's a simple in-person step we'll guide you through, but it isn't something we can handle on your behalf.

The Tax Angle Most People Miss
Cut your Spanish tax bill with Beckham Law
DNV holders can opt into Spain's special non-resident tax regime ("Beckham Law") — paying a flat 24% on Spanish-source employment income up to €600,000, for up to 6 years. That's instead of standard progressive rates reaching 47%. Beckham Law eligibility and registration is a separate tax service — we can refer you to our tax team once your DNV is approved.

Questions we hear every day
How much income do I need for the Spanish DNV in 2026?
For a single applicant you must demonstrate €2,849 per month — 200% of the Spanish SMI (Salario Mínimo Interprofesional). Additional income is required for family: +75% of SMI for a spouse, +25% per child.
What is the Beckham Law tax rate under the DNV?
A flat 24% on Spanish-source employment income up to €600,000, for up to 6 years. Optional at application — we include the review in our service.
How long does the Spanish DNV last?
UGE route (apply from within Spain): a 3-year residence permit directly. Consulate route (apply from your home country): a 1-year visa that converts to a 3-year residence permit on arrival. Both renewable for a further 2 years. Permanent residency after 5 years of continuous residence.
Can I bring my family on the Spanish DNV?
Yes. Spouses, registered partners, and dependent children can join the application. Family discount available.
Can I work for a UK or US company on the Spanish DNV?
Yes — that's exactly the point. The DNV is designed for non-EU nationals working remotely for foreign employers or clients. Up to 20% of income may come from Spanish sources.
How much does your service cost?
€1,899 total for a new 1-adult application, paid in three stages (€500 + €500 + €899). Renewals are €999 total (€400 + €599). Sworn translations included. Family discount available.
Can I apply from inside Spain on a tourist visa?
Yes — this is the UGE route, and it's usually faster (around 20 working days). You must still be within your legal stay period at the time of application.
