Jordan applicant situation
Moving to Spain from Jordan
Spain is an increasingly popular destination for remote workers.
Your Route
Jordanian passport holders require a Schengen visa to enter Spain. The standard DNV route is a consulate application at the Spanish Embassy in Amman. Applications are assessed by the UGE in Madrid.
Legalisation Chain
Jordan is not a Hague Convention member. Your criminal record certificate from the Public Security Directorate must be legalised by the Jordanian MFA (Notary Public) and then attested by the Spanish Embassy in Amman.
A note for Jordan nationals
Jordan is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. The full legalisation chain (Public Security Directorate → MFA Jordan → Spanish Embassy) takes 8–12 weeks. Begin early.
Application routes
Consulate or UGE — the two routes to Spain's DNV
Jordan passport holders require a Schengen tourist/visit visa to enter Spain. This means the UGE route requires an extra step — obtain a Schengen visa first, then enter Spain and apply. Most applicants from Jordan find the consulate route more straightforward. Apply at the Spanish Embassy in your country in Jordan before travelling to Spain.

- – Additional step vs consulate route
Criminal record certificate
Police certificate requirements for Jordan nationals
All DNV applicants must provide a criminal record certificate apostilled or legalised for international use. For Jordan nationals, the required certificate is the Jordanian Criminal Record Certificate (صحيفة الحالة الجزائية).
relevant national authority
Apply for a Criminal Record Certificate (صحيفة الحالة الجزائية) at the Criminal Evidence Department of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) at the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Amman. Online applications may be available via the e-government portal (jordan.gov.jo). Fee: nominal.
Certifying for use in Spain
1. Obtain cert from PSD / Ministry of Interior. 2. Legalise at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates — Notary Public and Authentication section. 3. Present to the Spanish Embassy in Amman for consular attestation. Originals required at each step.
Allow Criminal record cert: 3–5 working days. MFA legalisation: 5–10 working days. Spanish Embassy attestation: 1–2 weeks. Sworn Spanish translation: 5–10 days. Allow 8–12 weeks total.
The police certificate is frequently the longest lead-time document in a DNV application. Apply for it as early as possible — your case manager will advise on optimal timing to avoid delays to your submission.
Living in Spain
Popular cities and practical tips for Jordan nationals in Spain
Madrid and Barcelona are top picks for Jordanian professionals for their large international communities. Málaga and Marbella are popular for the warm Gulf-Mediterranean climate. Valencia is increasingly attractive for remote workers seeking affordability. All major Spanish cities have halal restaurants and Arabic-speaking communities.
Tax implications for Jordan nationals
Once you become Spanish tax resident (183+ days in Spain in a calendar year), you file IRPF in Spain. A double taxation treaty between Spain and Jordan prevents being taxed on the same income twice. Specialist cross-border tax advice is recommended before making the move.
Banking and finances
Jordan has a strong IT and freelance sector, particularly in Amman. Ensure income documentation is in English or Spanish with certified translations. Many Jordanians hold dual nationality — confirm which passport you will use for the application, as this affects the route. Private health insurance covering Spain must be in place before the visa is granted.
