Eligibility
Who can apply for Spain's Digital Nomad Visa?
Spain's DNV is open to non-EU nationals who earn their income from sources outside Spain. Whether you are employed by a foreign company, self-employed with international clients, or running a business from anywhere — if you earn at least €2,849 per month and can demonstrate 3+ months in your current role, you likely qualify.
Remote Employees
You work for a company headquartered outside Spain — whether in the UK, US, Australia, or anywhere else. Your employer pays your salary; you want to live in Spain.
Most CommonFreelancers & Self-Employed
You invoice clients internationally and work on your own schedule. As an autónomo, you must show at least 3 months of consistent income meeting the monthly threshold.
Autónomo RouteCompany Directors
You own or direct a company registered outside Spain, and you manage it remotely. The DNV extends to business owners whose primary operations are outside Spanish territory.
Business OwnersFamilies
Spouses, registered partners, and dependent children can be included in a joint application. Additional income thresholds apply per family member.
Joint ApplicationKey income requirement for 2026
The minimum income threshold for a single applicant is €2,849 per month — 200% of Spain's 2026 Salario Mínimo Interprofesional (SMI). For a couple, approximately €3,917/month. For each additional child, add a further €356/month. Not sure if you qualify? Check the full requirements →
What You Get
Everything included in your application
No hidden extras. No surprises mid-way through. This is your complete DNV application service from day one through to approval.
Full application preparation & submission
Our Platinum Legal Spain immigration team prepares every form, checks every requirement, and submits your complete application file — UGE or consulate route.
Official sworn translations — up to the value of €200
Criminal records, employment contracts, and other key documents require certified translation into Spanish. We include sworn translations up to the value of €200 in your fee.
24/7 online dashboard & case tracking
Log in any time to see exactly where your application stands. Upload documents, receive requests, and track your case progress — all in one place, from anywhere in the world.
UGE or consulate route — we advise the best fit
We assess your situation and recommend whether the UGE route (in Spain, 3-year permit) or the consulate route (from your home country) is right for you — and manage the process accordingly.
Government tasa (UGE route)
If we submit your application at the UGE, the government processing fee (tasa) is included in our price. Consulate-route applicants pay the tasa directly at their consulate — this varies by country.
Document checklist & review
Before submission, your complete document file is reviewed by our team. We flag gaps, request clarifications, and ensure nothing goes to the authority that isn't ready.
NIE number
Your Número de Identificación de Extranjero (NIE) — essential for everything from renting a flat to opening a bank account — is automatically assigned when your DNV is approved.
Post-approval guidance
Once approved, we walk you through the next steps: TIE appointment booking, what to bring, and what to expect when you arrive. We don't disappear after the visa is granted.
NOT INCLUDED — Separate Services
Government Tasa — Consulate Route
If applying via consulate, the Spanish government processing fee is paid directly by you at the time of application. The amount varies by country.
Health Insurance
Private health insurance is a visa requirement for employed applicants. We recommend spanish-healthinsurance.com or 247expatinsurance.com for DNV-compliant cover.
TIE Appointment
Your Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero (residency card) requires an in-person appointment at a comisaría in Spain. You book this directly once approved — we provide the guidance.
Beckham Law Tax Registration
Registering for Spain's 24% flat tax under the Beckham Law is a post-approval, separate tax service. Ask us about it once your visa is confirmed.
Additional Sworn Translations
Translations up to the value of €200 are included. If your application requires additional translated documents beyond that value, these are costed separately.
The Process
From sign-up to approval — how it works
Five stages in total, but the heavy lifting is ours. Here's the simplified view. See the full step-by-step breakdown →
Open your dashboard & upload documents
Create your case on the dashboard. You'll receive a personalised document checklist specific to your situation — employment type, nationality, route, and family composition. Upload everything securely. Our team reviews each document and flags any issues before we proceed.
We prepare your application
Your Platinum Legal Spain immigration lawyer drafts the application forms, arranges sworn translations, compiles your file, and conducts a final pre-submission review. We confirm your preferred route — UGE or consulate — and ensure everything is ready to go before the second stage payment is made.
We submit on your behalf
For UGE applicants, we present the application directly to the Unidad de Grandes Empresas in Madrid. For consulate applicants, we provide the complete file for you to submit at your nearest Spanish consulate. From submission, UGE decisions typically come in around 20 working days.
You receive your visa or permit
UGE applicants receive a 3-year residence permit. Consulate applicants receive a 1-year entry visa; once in Spain you register for your TIE for that initial year, then renew for 2 years at a time. Your NIE number is assigned automatically at this point.
Final payment & next steps
The final stage payment is made only on approval. We then guide you through booking your TIE appointment, understanding your residency obligations, and what comes next — including the option to register for Beckham Law tax benefits through our tax team as a separate service.
Your Route
UGE or Consulate? We'll advise the right one
There are two ways to apply for Spain's Digital Nomad Visa. The route that's right for you depends on where you are right now.
UGE Route
Apply from within Spain
Consulate Route
Apply from your home country
Not sure which route to choose?
If you are already in Spain — or can enter on a standard tourist visa — the UGE route is almost always the better option. You get a 3-year permit immediately, the tasa is included, and the process is faster. We'll confirm the right route for you when you open your dashboard case. Learn more about UGE vs Consulate →

Why Us
Backed by Platinum Legal Spain's immigration lawyers
We are not a referral platform or a form-filling service. Every application is handled by a qualified member of the Platinum Legal Spain immigration team — the same lawyers handling complex residency cases across Spain.
"I'd been going around in circles trying to understand whether I should apply at the UGE or the consulate. Within 24 hours of starting my dashboard case, the team had assessed my situation and given me a clear recommendation. The whole process felt genuinely straightforward."
"As a freelancer with multiple clients across different countries, I wasn't sure I'd meet the income requirements on paper. The team worked through my invoices, explained exactly what to provide, and my application sailed through. Approved in just over three weeks."
"We applied as a family of four — myself, my husband, and two children. The dashboard made it clear what documents each of us needed. The team handled the translations, the forms, everything. We're now living in Valencia on three-year permits."
